The update will KB5043131 affect a wide range of system functions.

Microsoft has released the Windows 10 KB5043131 update, which includes nine changes and fixes aimed at improving the system's performance. The update is available for users of version 22H2 and is a preliminary cumulative release for September 2024.

Key fixes include fixing an issue that caused Edge browser to stop responding in IE compatibility mode, as well as a fix for a bug that caused Work Folders to fail to sync when Defender for Endpoint antivirus was active. In addition, the update fixes a bug due to which some media files stopped playing when using certain surround sound technologies.

In addition, KB5043131 improves the Start menu by changing the position of the profile picture and adding a new background color to increase the contrast of elements. The update also fixes frequent Microsoft Entra sign-in notifications that occur in accordance with the requirements of the European Digital Markets Act (DMA).

We've also updated mobile operator profiles, improved File Explorer and taskbars, and fixed issues with system freezes when using these apps. In addition, there is a new notification about the ability to choose to participate in Windows updates.

It is worth noting that this update contains a known issue: users may encounter difficulties when changing their account profile picture. This is the only issue reported by Microsoft for this release.

The update can be installed through Windows Update by selecting Check for updates. For those who prefer manual installation, KB5043131 available for download in the Microsoft update catalog.
