Inconspicuous at first glance details that significantly increase the convenience of work.

Microsoft has released a preview KB5046740 update for Windows 11 24H2, which includes 14 improvements and fixes. The update fixes issues with File Explorer, clipboard and additional displays, as well as improves the work with speech functions and text input.

The KB5046740 update refers to optional monthly preview updates that are released in the fourth week of the month. They allow administrators to test fixes before the official release on Patch Tuesday next month.

One of the new features was the addition of the ability to send content to Android devices directly from the context menu of the desktop and File Explorer. To do this, you need to install the Phone Link app on your smartphone.

In addition, the update fixes lag and screen tearing on secondary screens in full-screen mode, issues with missing content in clipboard history, and app windows moving to the corner of the screen after waking the device from sleep.

The following bugs have also been fixed: the display of small circles when searching for the mouse pointer using the CTRL key and the incorrect display of the notification icon when Do Not Disturb mode is enabled.

It's also worth noting that KB5046740 improves the text and voice accessibility of Windows, including improvements in the speaker, voice input, live captioning, and translations features. Moreover, the update adds support for launching jump list items with administrative rights while holding down the Shift and Ctrl keys.

Microsoft has revealed that preview updates will not be released in December 2024 due to the holiday season. However, the monthly security update will arrive on schedule. Normal work with updates will resume in January 2025.

At the moment, there is only one known issue with KB5046740: users of ARM-based Windows devices are unable to download and play Roblox through the Microsoft Store. Also confirmed is a bug that leads to a sharp increase in the volume of sound on some USB DAC.

You can install KB5046740 automatically from Windows Update or manually by downloading the update from the official Microsoft website.
