Every year the number of bank card users is growing incredibly. And this is not surprising, because the payment of wages in many enterprises is carried out using this particular banking service; a considerable number of people store and use their savings using a small plastic card, considering this option more reliable, convenient and safe than carrying cash with them or storing them at home.

With the growing popularity of using bank cards, cases of fraud related to the theft of money from customer accounts have become more frequent. Unsuspecting people instantly lose large sums of money after purchasing a product or service, using an ATM, or paying a bill. At the same time, sometimes mass thefts occur, when large sums of money are debited from the accounts of a large number of clients of one bank at the same time.

Types of fraud with bank cards - carding:

Carding is fraudulent transactions with bank cards. By hacking payment systems or servers of online stores, fraudsters obtain details. And duplicate banking sites themselves collect data from defrauded cardholders.

Skimming (from the English skim - skim off the cream) is fraud with bank cards, when a device (skimmer) is installed on the ATM, which copies all the data from the magnetic stripe. By installing mini-cameras or a keyboard overlay, scammers receive your PIN code.

At first glance, a phantom ATM seems to be no different from a real one. But it's just an empty box with a skimmer installed. If you try to withdraw funds from this ATM, the ATM displays a technical error or lack of funds in the account, the Victim goes to look for another ATM, and the scammers have already received all the necessary details. Phishing Phishing is a scam to obtain confidential data. This type of fraud is not directly related to bank cards. This is the most common method of Internet fraud today. You receive a letter (as if from a bank or from another real organization), follow the link that is in the letter, without suspecting anything. To log into your account, enter your username and password, which is what the attackers receive. Because the site was made by scammers to collect confidential information. To create messages, the logo and style of the organization from which the letter is supposedly sent is used; it can be personalized. Therefore, phishing messages are difficult to distinguish from real ones that the bank sends you. Those who created these sites are usually not found, although these sites do not last long. Follow the rules:

- Check the domain name carefully.

- Do not trust messages that ask you to enter your personal data; it is better to call the bank if something worries you.

- Regularly update anti-virus software that is responsible for accessing sites. Vishing is a scam involving the collection of confidential information using a telephone, a subtype of phishing. The victim receives an SMS message that there is a problem with the card, fraudulent actions have been committed with it, and in order to eliminate the threat, they need to call the specified phone number. The victim calls and is asked to provide a PIN or password.

Scotch tape method. The slot for dispensing money on the ATM is sealed with tape. While the victim goes to find out why he didn’t receive the money, the tape comes off and the scammer gets the money.

Follow the rules:

- When receiving the card, you need to sign it, which will reduce the risk of using it in case of loss.

- Change your PIN regularly. Experts advise doing this at least once every 30-60 days.

- Destroy receipts with the card number written on them.

Recommendations for citizens:

1. Only scammers can request your mobile phone number and other additional information, in addition to your ID, permanent and one-time passwords.

2. Only fraudsters can request passwords to cancel transactions or templates in Sberbank Online. If you are asked to enter a password to cancel or confirm transactions that you have NOT performed, then stop using the service and immediately contact the Bank.

3. Only in case of fraudulent transactions, the details of your transaction do not match the details in the received SMS message.

4. Only on fraudulent sites the contact phone number does not correspond to the official ones.

5. On fraudulent sites, the IP address numbers or any domains other than the registered domain names of the Sberbank-Online system are displayed in the address bar of the browser.
