This summer, all the tabloids told the story of model Chloe Ayling, who was abducted by the semi-virtual group "Black Death", who planned to sell the girl in the slave market on the Darknet. Reddit users are conducting a collective investigation, looking for inconsistencies in the history of the criminal syndicate and so far come to the conclusion that ordinary Polish scammers are behind it, and their story is more like the movie "Big Jackpot" or "Burn After reading".

On July 11, 2017, twenty-year-old model Chloe Ayling went for a routine photo shoot on the outskirts of Milan. She was met by brothers Lukasz and Michael Erb, who introduced themselves as the organizers and customers of the shooting. But instead of a photo shoot, the girl was drugged with ketamine, stuffed into a suitcase and taken to a village near Turin.

Lukash stayed behind to watch the model. There was a single double bed in a sparsely furnished room in a rented cottage. The stolen model is wearing an orange swimsuit and socks. Lukasz was sitting next to Chloe on the bed. He talked casually about working for the Black Death group, how he made $ 15,000,000, and about his favorite method of killing - poison poisoning.

They slept together, but there was no harassment: sexual assault is supposedly prohibited by the syndicate's charter. When the captive lost her shoe, the Pole, having dressed up the model, carefully took her out for a walk to get a new pair, but did not let her relax: allegedly, there are many agents of "Death" around and one wrong step will lead to execution.

Lukas told the captive that the girl was supposed to be sold into sexual slavery at an auction on the Darknet, but selling women with children (Chloe has a two-month-old son) is against the rules. So he tried to push a buyout offer to her agent and three of her rich friends. He asked them for $ 300,000.

The day before the photo shoot, the brothers sent letters with information about the abduction to the English tabloids. In them, they reported that the model was kidnapped by the Russian mafia. Then they sent letters with photos of the bound model to the English press (kidnapped and kidnappers from London). The publication was banned by the police both times.
It didn't work out with the ransom. Desperate, Lukas took the girl to the British Embassy on July 17, making her promise that she would pay him $ 50,000 in bitcoins (otherwise the "Black Death" would appear). For some reason, Lukas turned himself in to the local cops right on the doorstep. His brother was caught in England in August.

After the arrest of the kidnappers and the release of the model, the story was replicated by the media. It turned out that a Motherboard reporter encountered the group back in 2015. He followed the link posted on Reddit and got to the syndicate's website. On sale: guns, contract murders, passports and sex slaves. The correspondent tried to get in touch, but was answered: "Nice try, Europol."

"IF THERE ARE ANY, YOU WON'T GET ON THEM SO EASILY. NO ONE OPENLY FIRES SUCH THINGS»

The main twist of the story is that the "Black Death" is most likely a hoax. The Italian police, for example, almost immediately caught Lukas in myth-making. He told them that he was forced to go against the law by leukemia: money for treatment was given by Romanians from Birmingham for organizing the abduction. Allegedly promised $ 500,000, but this is more than the ransom amount.
The kidnapped model later recalled: "Lukas was not interested in listening. I felt like he was trying to surprise me or feed his ego." However, he still gave her a good scare with the stories of the murders. The police still have questions for both the abductor and the abducted woman.

A little later, the "pirate and sysadmin" Chris Monteiro tried to clarify the situation, who made his own investigation about the darknet syndicate. In short: "Death" was actively advertised on dark Internet boards (they are almost the same as regular boards like Dvach) and on Reddit, which is hardly a common practice among real syndicates. And the photos of slaves found by Motherboard on the group's website turned out to be frames from ordinary BDSM porn.

Lukas has been trying to sell his services since 2015, but most likely without success. Shortly after the arrest of the second Erb, it was reported that the Black Death had already held auctions with underage British virgins, but their veracity has yet to be proven (or disproved) by Europol.

They also had really terrible branding. Only a B-movie scriptwriter could call an organized criminal group that way.
Despite all the doubts about the story of the Erb brothers, human trafficking on the dark Web is likely to exist. This text would not have been complete if I hadn't pretended to be a detective from a noir detective story and went in search of slave auctions on the Russian-language darknet. First of all, I started shaking up my contacts from the world of cyber-crime. As it turned out, small-time crooks are not very successful in the slave trade: "If they are, then you will not get on them so easily. I didn't see anything.

"Girls, children, five-thirteen and eighteen-twenty-eight years old. South America, USA, Canada, Europe. Documents. They are kept in order and clean, under high-quality [psychoactive substances]. White, Asian, black. No deformities, girls without excess weight, "writes user smiling knight on the black market forum Rutor. Usually there are carders, dealers and their cooks. The topic appeared in February of this year, and a survey is attached to it. The author tried to understand if there is a demand for slaves on the forum.

The topic contains six pages of discussions. Someone asks about logistics (you can't make a bookmark), someone condemns. Usually, transactions on the site are carried out with the help of intermediaries-guarantors, so administrators are asked questions about whether they are going to legitimize the practice on the forum. Admins are silent: slaves are new to Rutor. Others write that the topic is similar to fake. Moreover, even despite the obvious interest of users, smiling knight disappeared from the forum less than a month after publication, and no specific lots appeared.

And in another topic created by him, smiling knight tried to find out the exact location of a Dota 2 game streamer, "who in one of the games with me, when I peeped Rubik in support, called me a regular and said: check your family." Apparently, to fill the muzzle, or for threats. As a reward, a game item of the lowest level was offered (they write that they usually cost around a couple of US cents). In short, the "Knight" does not look like a seasoned slaver. Just in case, I tried to get in touch with him, but without success.
Last chance - darknet search engines, which will definitely not show me closed sites for their own, but could lead to some leads.
One of these leads was an ad for the sale of an underage slave from Germany, posted on one of the darknet boards. Logged in to an email conversation. They answered only in broken English, without guarantees, delivery details, or even photos of the girl. If I wanted to buy a slave, it wouldn't be from this guy.

Ira approached Sasha. She walked around him first, once, twice, three times. Alice watched, barely able to contain her laughter. She allowed herself to smile only when Irkin's trembling hand touched the boy's cock. As if burned, she jerked her hand away. "What are you afraid of, silly? "Alice went up to the young man, grabbed him by the penis in one motion and yanked him down. Sasha screamed and fell to the floor. "Stand up! "Sasha jumped to his feet and received a resounding slap in the face.

I found an erotic story! In it, the girl Alice, along with her friend, plays her slave, pretending to remove his penis. And he faints. In addition to "Alice" (by the way, it is also easily searched on the regular Internet), I found a bunch of other similar stories, a site for long-term escort rentals, a collection of books by Marx and Engels, and a bunch of branches on shadow boards where questions about slave auctions flow into memes and racist jokes.

However, we must not allow fakes and fanfiction to trivialize the problem in the eyes of readers.
Specialized NGOs and Europol speak about the slave trade on the Internet in their reports. At the end of July, the special service conducted a large-scale special operation: in a week, operatives checked almost one hundred and twenty-five thousand people, six thousand cars and four thousand locations like brothels, massage parlors and the like. In a press release, the organizations wrote that " the online environment used to advertise sexual exploitation was given special attention".

To combat the slave trade on the Web, a department of the US Department of Defense called the Office of Advanced Research Projects has developed a special comprehensive Memex search engine. The program scans the Internet (both normal and deep) and simulates human behavior: it checks every working button on sites, examines pop-up interface elements, and so on. The robot should even find things that dark web search engines can't. The slave trade and sexual slavery are the main goals of the program.

And scientists from New York University and the University of California at Berkeley and San Diego recently developed a comprehensive method for analyzing slave trader networks using blockchain: they analyze payments from the blockchain and advertising on the Internet, and artificial intelligence recognizes where prostitution is advertised and where sex slavery involving minors is.
Yes, yes, advertising on the regular Internet. The network presence of both Europol and, to a lesser extent, Memex is directed against it.

Previously, the main focus of such advertising on the American Internet was Backpage.com - a site of electronic ads, like Avito; in January 2017, the feds closed adult advertising on the site. But victory is still a long way off. On Avito, by the way, escort ads (even veiled ones) are moderated, and the dating section was closed.
The contribution of brothel advertising to the global slave market is much higher than the notorious slave auctions on the Darknet, but they cause less trepidation among ordinary people than the semi-mythical virtual slave market.

The fact is that the darknet has managed to acquire a huge number of myths in the eyes of the general user. It's easier to buy drugs, of course, but the rest of the criminal community doesn't really need the deep Internet. For years, criminals did without the darknet and, in fact, still do. In Google, for example, you can easily find sites selling MDMA and spice. Some suggest making a bookmark at the selected metro station in Moscow. You just need to enable VPN. Buying a gun, a fake passport, and child porn is also easy (the latter is even easier on the regular Internet).

Internet investigator Chris Monteiro, who scoured the darknet for references to the Black Death, found a thread on a Polish conspiracy forum where users are baiting stories about how Ross Ulbritch ordered a murder from Death. Ross, aka the Dreaded Pirate Roberts, is the creator of the historic Silk Road black market. In fact, Ulbritch ordered five people from the Canadian Hells Angels. And another one from a Drug Enforcement Administration agent. All six times he was thrown. Spent over a million dollars.

Whether the Poles of Erb managed to sell someone into slavery, we may never know. As well as whether there was a "Black Death" in principle. But some moral can be found in this story. For example, that the Internet can feed the slave industry without Tor. Or the fact that cryptocapitalism has not yet arrived, and just buying a slave or rolling up a competitor in polyethylene is not so easy (especially without guarantors). Maybe Marx and Engels are just a couple of clicks away from a fanfiction about a severed penis.
