According to the territorial application, plastic cards are divided into local, international and virtual.

Local. Local plastic cards are intended for performing financial transactions exclusively in the internal system of the bank. The use of such cards in the terminal of other banks is not possible. Payment for purchases in retail outlets and online stores is possible, provided that the bank provides these services.

International. They are available in various versions with an individual set of functionality for each type of card. The most common are Visa and MasterCard. With the help of international cards, it is possible to carry out financial transactions around the world, including making purchases in online stores.

Virtual. This type of plastic cards is intended exclusively for carrying out financial transactions via the Internet. They differ from other cards by the absence of a chip and a magnetic stripe. In addition, the owner of such a card is not able to cash out at the cash desks of a bank branch, with the exception of closing the virtual card (if there is a positive balance on it.

According to the type of use of funds, plastic cards are classified into debit cards, cards with authorized overdraft, credit and prepaid.

Debit. The use of a debit card is carried out at the expense of the owner's personal funds. In this case, the owner bank can set a certain limit on cash withdrawals (minimum balance). Upon agreement between the owner and the bank, interest on the remaining funds may be charged to the card. A debit card allows you to make purchases in online stores.

Card with permitted overdraft. In terms of functionality, this type of card is similar to a debit card. The only difference is the ability to exceed the consumption of funds available on the card account. This opportunity is provided by opening a fixed line of credit, which is automatically activated when a negative balance is reached. For the use of credit funds, the bank calculates interest. At the same time, the overdraft interest rate is at a certain level higher compared to conventional loans.

Credit. In fact, issuing such a card is tantamount to issuing credit funds in cash. The only difference is that the borrower can use the funds according to his needs, and interest for the use of loans is charged on the amount actually used.

By purpose, credit cards are classified into personal, payroll, and corporate.

Personal. Personal cards are issued at the initiative of the client for their own needs.

Salary. Issued to employees of companies that have entered into an agreement with the bank on the accrual and issuance of funds for plastic cards. Compared to personal ones, salary cards are more profitable, and the process of issuing them is much easier. At the same time, benefits can be established for using a fixed credit limit. When an employee is dismissed, some organizations may leave the card in use before its expiration date.

Corporate. Designed to conduct financial transactions of employees in the interests of the company. At the same time, the funds on the card fully belong to the company, and all settlement operations carried out are confirmed by checks.
