Cyber police and investigators have exposed a resident of the regional center who created fake ads in the social network about helping the military. Particularly cynical was the fact that the "benefactor" used photos of real Ukrainian soldiers, as well as people who suffered as a result of accidents even before the full-scale invasion.

Cyber police operatives and investigators of the Zhytomyr District Police Department, under the procedural guidance of the Zhytomyr District Prosecutor's Office, with the assistance of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Regional Police Department, exposed a 42-year-old resident of the regional center who posted fake ads on the social network about raising money to help defenders of Ukraine who suffered from the actions of the aggressor country.

In particular, in the notes created during 2023-2024, the person involved posted a photo of a real Ukrainian military, which performs tasks to protect our state. Next to it is a photo of another girl with amputated limbs, who actually lost them back in 2021 as a result of an accident on the railway. Her family really continues to raise funds for the rehabilitation of the girl. At the same time, in the article, the fraudster reported that in the first and second photos - it is a military woman who was allegedly wounded in the war.

Posing as a benefactor, the attacker asked to transfer funds allegedly for medical treatment and prosthetics to bank cards under his control.

According to preliminary data, the defendant thus deceived dozens of people. The total amount of losses is about 300 thousand hryvnias.

In June of this year, the police conducted searches at the place of registration and residence of the defendant. Computer equipment, mobile phones, 10 bank cards, starter packages of mobile operators and computer equipment were seized.

Investigators declared the defendant suspected under Part 1, 2 of Article 190 (Fraud). The Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces up to three years in prison.

Now investigative actions are continuing, the final number of victims and the full amount of damage caused are being established. Additional qualification of the crime is possible.
