Despite the fact that approximately 198 million more people live in the United States, in 2023 in Russia crimes using ICT were committed 82% more often, but their damage in America significantly exceeded the losses in Russia. According to law enforcement agencies in both countries, the average damage from a single crime in the United States is 447% higher than in Russia.

This follows from statistics for the past year provided by the Russian Interior Ministry and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation.
According to the agency, the damage from cybercrime in 2023 amounted to 156 billion rubles ($1.75 billion at the exchange rate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation at the time of publication of the material).
According to statistics provided on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 677 thousand crimes committed using information and communication technologies (ICTs) or in the field of computer information were registered in Russia, but not only cybercrimes are taken into account here. Thus, approximately 470 crimes involving the use of ICTs are committed in Russia per 100 thousand people.
However, it also includes: illegal organization and conduct of gambling (171.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), public calls to carry out terrorist activities (205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), illegal production sale or transfer of narcotic substances (228.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and other acts that are not directly related to the ICT sphere.
According to American law enforcement agencies, 880 thousand crimes were registered in the United States in 2023, which means approximately 257 crimes using ICT per 100 thousand people. Last year, their damage amounted to $12.5 billion (more than 1.1 trillion rubles).

On June 4, 2024, a meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation dedicated to countering cybercrime was held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Vladimir Kolokoltsev. He presented data on remote acts and described the damage and number of these crimes.
The Minister said that since 2020, the number of attacks using information technologies has increased by a third, and the share of remote acts in the total array is now approaching 40%. "Last year, half a million people suffered from them, of which almost every fourth is a pensioner," he said.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia said that new ways of committing encroachments on citizens ' money are constantly emerging.
He noted the main schemes that criminals use most often: SIM boxes, virtual automatic telephone exchanges (IP telephony), fictitious exchange platforms (copies of real resources), unreliable crypto exchanges and "shadow" marketplaces.
"In 2023-2024, a surge in cases of illegal access to computer information is recorded. If in 2020 their share among remote trains did not exceed one percent, now it is every eighth IT act," the head of the department stated.
