It's no secret that the so-called "big boy countries" set trends in the world and rule everything. After all, their strength and superiority is something that is difficult to question. It is also no secret that it is the powerful countries that are most involved in the creation, support and development of the darknet. Who is this - you ask? The answer is obvious: Russia, China, USA, UK and Germany.

Darkweb Medal Table Ranking

In recent years, many cybersecurity IT companies have conducted research to determine the reasons for the rise of the darknet and which countries may be most influencing this growth. RepKnight, the cybersecurity company that is very familiar with the dark side of the Internet, has finally proved which countries are most involved in the darknet.

The company has published a so-called alternative "medals table" (medal table) with accounts of the most common national top-level domain (TLD) in the e-mail addresses, which are often used to log on to websites dark network, as well as pop up in various forums in the correspondence participants. Of course, Russian domains are most often found there .

Russia

Russia is a country around which the tense geopolitical situation is, it is a country that is stigmatized as "the worst", "aggressive" and "underdeveloped", but as for the dark side of the Internet - here it did not disappoint anyone, since it was largely involved in its creation and service. The .ru domain topped the top rankings with 8 gold medals, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. Olympic, isn't it?

European Union

Germany, another famous compatriot of the darknet, came in second in the medal standings. Given the country's repeated efforts to tackle the dark side of the Internet, the situation has not changed much and the expected results have yet to be obtained. (Note: Pavluu - we are talking about a large number of operations to liquidate darknet forums and sites. For example, we wrote about this here and here)

Another European country, France, which really impressed many with its results in the last 2018 Winter Olympics, reciprocated here as well, finishing third in the Darkweb Medal Table.

The list includes mainly European countries: the Czech Republic is in 9th place, Italy - in 11th place, Sweden - in 12th place. Great Britain ranked 10th. This result will raise the eyebrows of many British people, as England has recently seen a wave of arrests and the closure of several darknet forums. (Note: Pavluu - Source, deepdotweb site, recently often publishes information about the detention of drug dealers and drug market customers in the dark web)

By the way, all the attempts of Great Britain are also in vain, since it remains the country with the highest volumes of drug trafficking via the Internet, if we are talking about Europe. The market turnover is about 16 million pounds per month, which is about 18-20% of the EU drug market as a whole. The income of every UK dealer trading on the darknet is on average estimated at around £ 5,000-6,000 a month.

Norway finished last in the medal standings.

USA

The United States is still that "powerhouse" if we are talking about the darknet. She finished 9th in the medal standings, which is a shocking result for Americans. Why? In recent years, the country has become mired in synthetic opioid drugs that are sold on the darknet. In fact, there is almost an epidemic of their use, if we consider the strata of society that use psychoactive substances.

In custody

RepKnight has counted around 7.5 million email addresses. At the same time, typical .com and .net domains accounted for about 70% of the identified data. Accordingly, the research results are based on the remaining 30%.

Speaking after the poll, Patrick Martin, cybersecurity analyst at RepKnight stated that:

"The dark web is a significantly growing threat to businesses around the world. While we are not going to present any awards to the 'winners' of our alternative medal table, it certainly provides a clearer picture of which countries are being targeted by cybercriminals. "

By the way, you can see the entire Olympic table here.
