Positive Technologies has launched a free cyber incident investigation simulator.

Positive Technologies has updated the Standoff 365 platform and introduced a new online simulator Standoff Cyberbones, which is now available to everyone who wants to gain knowledge in investigating cyber incidents and improve their professional skills. This simulator allows information security specialists of any level to master the methods of leading white hackers who participated in the Standoff cyber battle in practice. Selected by experts, the most interesting incidents from past cyber battles are offered for free investigation.

In May 2024, the 13th Standoff cyber battle took place in Moscow, which took place as part of the Positive Hack Days international cyber festival. For three days, teams of attackers and defenders competed at the cyber range for the resources of two virtual states. The attackers managed to carry out 415 critical attacks, including 77 unique ones, and the total number of vulnerabilities detected was 617. Defenders investigated 182 attacks and identified 851 incidents.

The value of cyber warfare lies in the fact that information security specialists can test the security of companies in various industries using the example of virtual states. White hackers attack the infrastructure of virtual states, and defenders investigate incidents, which allows you to apply the knowledge gained in practice. The artifacts of these battles are of considerable interest not only to the participants, but also to everyone who seeks to develop their skills in the field of information security. Attack chains will now be available for investigation around the clock and throughout the year.

In the face of a shortage of qualified personnel, many companies, according to Positive Technologies, need to develop the competencies of their employees. The new project will be an important tool for improving the skills of teams involved in information security. Simulator assignments are based on real-world incidents, and the necessary defenses include logs from real-world attacks, providing professionals with valuable hands-on experience in incident investigation.

The free version of the simulator allows registered users of the Standoff 365 platform to study the tactics and techniques of leading hackers. The simulator offers fifteen tasks based on atomic incidents, which will help not only improve the skills of investigating cyber incidents, but also gain experience in the use of modern information security tools. Tasks are available 24/7, which allows students to work at a comfortable pace.

The Standoff cyber battle has been held by Positive Technologies since 2016. In 2020, Moscow hosted the first major exercises at the cyber range, as well as a specialized online conference. Since then, events have been held twice a year: in the autumn as part of separate competitions, and in the spring as part of the Positive Hack Days international cybersecurity forum.

During the Standoff, more than 4,500 security specialists from 200 teams representing 30 countries took part in the cyber battle. More than 350 companies were able to increase their resilience to attacks thanks to the participation of their employees in these events.
