At the 10th annual SOC Forum, the results of the Cyber Battle 2024 were summed up. In total, 40 teams of information security specialists from government organizations, fintech services, IT teams as part of marketplaces, industrial, logistics, leasing and energy companies, banks, oil and gas and information security companies took part in the competition for the conquest of Mars.
The top three cyber defenders included teams from the oil and gas sector, law enforcement agencies and one of the Belarusian telecom operators. On the attackers' side, the best teams were Invuls, HackerLife, and Dsec, which represent independent players and companies in the information security industry. In total, Blue teams scored more than 130,000 points for effective response to cyberattacks, the Red team's result based on the results of completed incidents is about 16,000 points, or 8 to 1.
Solar Group, the architect of integrated cybersecurity, has developed a sci-fi settlement simulator for the competition. Colonists and hackers fought for the development of habitable places with the least losses, as did the heroes of science fiction films and game projects about the conquest of the universe. Each of the cyber defense teams sent an AI-controlled Automated Colony Module (AKM) to Mars, which was important to protect from enemy attacks. Therefore, cyber defense experts were able to practice the skills of monitoring, responding and investigating incidents live.
Cyber Battle-2024 was held on the basis of the Solar CyberMir 6.0 software platform, which is used for practical training of information security specialists in the field of monitoring, responding to and investigating cyber incidents.
"The IT systems of the Martian colony are objects of critical information infrastructure, like their terrestrial counterparts in key sectors of the Russian economy. Cyber Battle 2024 was attended by representatives of industries for which cybersecurity is an important factor in business sustainability, protecting the interests of customers and users. Therefore, the attack and defense techniques and tactics demonstrated by the experts will be in demand in real conditions," comments Evgeny Akimov, Director of the Cyber Polygon Department of the Solar Group of Companies.
Kaspersky Lab was the technological partner of the competition, which provided the Blue team with its flagship solutions: EPP and EDR endpoint protection tools, the Kaspersky Unified Monitoring and Analysis Platform SIEM system, and other information security tools.
"We traditionally provide our solutions for cyber battle, as we share the belief that international exercises provide cybersecurity teams with a unique opportunity to work out coordinated interaction in the face of an increasingly complex threat landscape. It is important that the participants used the entire palette of security solutions, from endpoint security to SIEM, and were able to effectively respond to incidents in conditions as close to real life as possible," said Anna Kulashova, Vice President for Business Development in Russia and the CIS at Kaspersky Lab.
Viewers of Cyber Battle 2024 could watch the competition from a cyberbar at the SOC Forum. The guests had the opportunity to predict the outcome of the battle, guess the winner or the final score, as well as vote for their favorite team.
Cyber Battle-2024th was held for the fourth time as part of the SOC Forum business program. This is one of the largest competitions for the industry along with the international cyber championships that Solar Group holds on the basis of the Solar CyberMir platform as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development of Russia and at the CIPR conference in Nizhny Novgorod with the participation of teams from more than 20 countries of the world.
