Do not hesitate, attackers are already on the threshold of your digital security.
The developers of the anonymous operating system Tails have released an emergency update with the serial number 6.8.1, which fixes a serious security vulnerability in the Tor browser.
The main change is the Tor Browser 13.5.7 update, which fixes the MFSA 2024-51 Use-After-Free vulnerability. Such a bug allows an attacker to take full control of the browser and, according to Mozilla, it is already being actively exploited in attacks on Tor Browser users.
Upgrading to Tails 6.8.1 is available through auto-updates starting from version 6.0 and higher. If the automatic update doesn't work, or if you're having trouble starting Tails, the developers recommend that you perform a manual system update.
You can also install Tails 6.8.1 on a new USB drive. To do this, users are provided with step-by-step instructions on how to install via Windows, macOS, Linux, or using the command line on Debian and Ubuntu using GnuPG. However, keep in mind that installing on USB instead of updating will result in the loss of all data in the permanent storage.
