If you have any kind of phobia - afraid of spiders, flying on an airplane, getting into an elevator (the list is almost endless) - then you probably realize the absurdity of your fears.

But you can’t help yourself. You break out in sticky sweat and panic at the thought of a spider or the need to fly. Why is it so hard to deal with yourself?

Because a very long time ago, when you were just a toddler, your beloved adult did not allow you to openly express feelings that are considered "bad": he did not allow you to be openly angry or cry out loudly about your childhood trouble.

And then your feelings, which you used to suppress, found another way out - they were transformed into vague anxiety. It is difficult to endure, sometimes unbearable. Therefore, the psyche is trying to help you - it is looking for a specific object to which fear can be directed.

Hello, fear of heights, enclosed spaces, cockroaches, clowns, darkness, etc.

Is it possible to get rid of a phobia?

Yes, if not to fight the symptoms, but to look for the root of this irrational fear: why are we afraid of this? What are we actually avoiding? And when a person realizes what is the essence of his inner conflict, learns to live his feelings and accepts himself as he is, the phobia will lose its strength and disappear.
