In St. Petersburg, officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the FSB of Russia stopped illegal access to computer information about the movement of trains.
Officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the FSB of Russia brought 12 local residents to the investigating authorities. They may be involved in the organization of illegal access to computer information protected by law about the movement of trains on the territory of the Russian Federation.
"It has been preliminarily established that the attackers have been engaged in criminal business since 2020. The organizer was a former employee of the information and computing center of a large railway company. He colluded with his former and current colleagues.
The defendants organized an unauthorized connection to the terminal, which received information about the schedule and routes of freight trains in real time. Interested individuals and legal entities were invited to purchase this information, "said the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.
To legalize illegal activities, its participants created a commercial organization. It declared the use of databases and information resources as its activities. On behalf of this company, contracts for the provision of services were concluded with the participants in the process of cargo transportation.
"According to operational data, the company had several dozen regular customers, each of whom paid monthly for access to information from 500 thousand to one million rubles. The total income of the organization during its existence amounted to about 100 million rubles.
At the same time, access to information on the transportation of goods through the territory of Russia was also provided to foreign customers, which could threaten transport security and lead to the disclosure of strategically important information," said Irina Volk.
During searches in residential and office premises, the police, together with officers of the regional FSB of Russia and the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia in St. Petersburg, with the support of the National Guard, seized computer equipment, data carriers, communications, documents and other items of evidentiary value.
"A criminal case has been initiated on the grounds of a crime under Article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Eight defendants were chosen a measure of procedural coercion in the form of an obligation to appear, four were detained on the basis of Article 91 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation", Irina Volk added.
