A 28-year-old resident of the Chelyabinsk region turned to the police of the Central District of St. Petersburg, who reported that he had become a victim of cyber fraudsters. According to the man, unknown persons hacked his personal account in the online bank and issued a loan in the amount of one hundred thousand rubles on his behalf.
On this fact, the investigator of the Investigative Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Central District of the city of St. Petersburg initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under part 2 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The crime was solved by criminal investigation officers.
As a result of the operational-search measures, the detectives identified young people involved in illegal activities - two natives of the Irkutsk region 19 and 20 years old, as well as their 19-year-old acquaintance from the Ivanovo region.
The scheme of deception was designed for the victim's negligence in matters of security. Attackers in the shadow segment of the Internet found phone numbers that had not been used by citizens for a long time, and by selecting them they were looking for those who forgot to "unlink" them from their personal accounts of the online bank.
Then the accomplices purchased SIM cards with the numbers of the previous owners and registered them using the data of third parties purchased on the darknet.
With the money obtained by criminal means, the attackers paid for goods and services in various online stores or transferred them to crypto wallets, after which they withdrew them to bank cards issued to themselves or other citizens.
During a search at the place of residence of the suspects in an apartment of a high-rise building on Bela Kuna Street, the police seized three mobile phones used in the commission of crimes, a laptop and 16 SIM cards.
The defendants were detained on the basis of Article 91 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation. Currently, the police are conducting further operational-search measures aimed at establishing all episodes of criminal activity of the attackers and the circumstances of the crimes committed.
