Employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, as a result of a complex of operational search measures, detained two St. Petersburg residents aged 33 and 34 who committed 8 episodes of fraud.
It is established that the defendants posted information about the sale of cabins and sea containers on the online ad service. The attackers convinced the potential buyer of the need to pay in full for the order. After they received the money, the buyer's phone number was blocked, as a result, the victims were left without money and goods.
According to preliminary data, for the period from March 2023 to January 2024, accomplices deceived 8 residents of St. Petersburg. The total amount of damage caused to citizens amounted to almost half a million rubles.
Investigative units of the police of various districts of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region opened criminal cases on all the facts under part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which were combined into one production. The suspects were detained under Article 91 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation.
Searches were conducted at the residential addresses of the detainees, during which 50 bank cards, 15 mobile phones, 3 laptops, a tablet and 2 computers were found and seized.
Operational and investigative measures are still being carried out. The involvement of malefactors in other similar crimes is established.
