Police officers of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, as a result of a complex of operational search measures, detained a 20-year-old student of an electrotechnical college in Chelyabinsk. He is suspected of embezzling funds from residents of various regions of the country using the sites created by him-doubles of well-known Internet trading platforms.

According to the police, the attacker, acting as a buyer, offered the sellers who responded to use the "Secure Transaction" and "Delivery"services. After receiving their consent, they sent them a phishing link to their resource, which imitates a real online platform.

After a person filled out a form for subsequent non-cash payments on the duplicate site, entered the necessary bank card details and the code sent to him from an SMS message, finances were repeatedly debited from his account.

Now operatives managed to establish the suspect's involvement in at least 70 episodes of illegal activity, the damage from which amounted to about half a million rubles.

An investigator of the Investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Krasnoselsky district of St. Petersburg opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under paragraph " d " of Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

During the search of the defendant's apartment, eight bank cards, two mobile phones and a laptop were seized. The malefactor was given a preventive measure – remand in custody.

Police officers conduct operational search activities to establish additional episodes of criminal activity of the detainee.
