Publishing data reveals potential firmware vulnerabilities.

An anonymous security researcher revealed information about the BIOS, as well as ROM and dump files for the AMD 4800S chip. The leak may contribute to a deeper study of the Xbox Series X game console among security professionals.

The AMD 4800S used in the Xbox Series X is a specialized microprocessor-based APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) architecture that has the GPU part disabled. Exposing the kit's BIOS raises security concerns not only for the Xbox Series X, but also for the PlayStation 5, which uses a similar 4700S chip.

The leaked BIOS files can give developers a unique opportunity to study the firmware in more detail, investigate potential hardware failures, and gain deeper knowledge about the CPU and architecture of the Xbox Series X, potentially leading to a console hack. However, if such information falls into the hands of attackers, it can be used to attack users of the Xbox Series X and, possibly, PlayStation 5.
