OpenAI and Anywhere have teamed up to create the future of programming without Copilot and VSCode.
Developer Aman Sanger presented his creation – a new AI-based Cursor code editor, which is designed to speed up and simplify the software development process, saving specialists time to navigate through the code, eliminate errors and make changes.
Existing tools and integrated development environments (IDEs), despite the presence of code autocompletion, syntax highlighting, and debugging tools, are often unable to provide the necessary productivity and efficiency when performing complex projects due to the lack of advanced artificial intelligence capabilities and full integration with the developer's workflow.
In this context, Cursor offers a wide range of functions, such as chat, code editing, debugging, terminal commands, and others that work on the basis of advanced language models. The tools allow developers to interact with artificial intelligence, get code suggestions, fix bugs, and even write commands in natural language.
One of the key features of Cursor is the ability to automatically resolve errors in the terminal. Using AI technologies, Cursor analyzes error messages, scans code files, and automatically suggests ways to fix them. This mechanism allows you to significantly save developer time and reduce the need for manual debugging, which ultimately increases the productivity and efficiency of the development process.
Sanger claims that the existing Cursor features and those that are planned in the future are not available in the usual VSCode code editor. In addition, as noted by Sanger, Cursor works 2 times faster than Copilot due to optimized output and an improved version of the model.
Sanger also noted that his team collaborated with OpenAI, which provided them with early access to GPT-4. Thanks to this partnership, Sanger's team was able to bring the full power of GPT-4 to Cursor for writing code. To develop Cursor, Sanger founded the company Anywhere and in October 2023 received $8 million from the OpenAI Startup Fund.
