I'm having trouble finding drops in my local area. Found a tut using search on this site saying you should look up listings for houses on sale/bidding. "All these houses are empty" is not true; i've visited at least 5 locations with the original owners still living in them. Can anyone help?

I recommend using hxxp://publicrecords.netronline.com

You can get free public records, if you can't find the information online you can call them and ask for information on a property, you can find foreclosed homes and all kinds of information. See who owns the property around your area or if no one lives at a home.

Pretty useful, it's all public information so you can get it without any questions asked if you phone them

Good for finding drops.

Thanks, a lot. And also, a house up for bid, short sale or foreclosed doesn't necessarily mean the owner is gone yet correct? Only after the sale is done is the owner evicted?

Also, do I call the specific service listed? Say I live in NY, I would call the [insert borough here] Dpt. of Finance for public records? (There are two services listed for my area; the register and the department of finance. The register uses ACRIS, doesn't help identify property ownership)

Edit again, rang up both numbers and no one answered (oddly enough). Search function for property on my city government's department of finance website is unavailable as well.

Edit again, finally worked out the search function, had to use BBL codes. I'm able to determine the ownership of individual houses around half a month ago by looking at property documents, yet I'm not able to determine the current owners or whether the houses will be foreclosed, etc.
