Thanks, a lot. And also, a house up for bid, short sale or foreclosed doesn't necessarily mean the owner is gone yet correct? Only after the sale is done is the owner evicted?
Also, do I call the specific service listed? Say I live in NY, I would call the [insert borough here] Dpt. of Finance for public records? (There are two services listed for my area; the register and the department of finance. The register uses ACRIS, doesn't help identify property ownership)
Edit again, rang up both numbers and no one answered (oddly enough). Search function for property on my city government's department of finance website is unavailable as well.
Edit again, finally worked out the search function, had to use BBL codes. I'm able to determine the ownership of individual houses around half a month ago by looking at property documents, yet I'm not able to determine the current owners or whether the houses will be foreclosed, etc.
