Unknown cybercriminals “robbed” the accounts belonging to the developers of the NULS cryptocurrency, stealing 2 million tokens (about $ 480 thousand). More than half a million of them have already been introduced to the market, so it is impossible to track them.

In order to "freeze" the rest of the cryptocurrency, the NULS developers plan to implement a hard fork (a change in the cryptocurrency protocol, incompatible with its previous versions). In this regard, network participants need to update their nodes to the latest software version as soon as possible.

According to the developers, the attackers exploited the now fixed vulnerability in version NULS 2.2.

The NULS team's decision to hardfork is similar to the decision made by the Ethereum developers after the DAO hacked in 2016.

After the attackers stole $ 40 million in ether from the DAO, the Ethereum developers split the blockchain into two versions. The first version (Ethereum) allowed all users affected by the attack to get their savings back, while the second (Ethereum Classic) continued to support the original blockchain. This hard fork remains rather controversial to this day - opponents consider it proof of the centralized governance of Ethereum. True, the NULS cryptocurrency is much less popular than Ethereum, and its hard fork is unlikely to cause much noise.
