There are situations when you need to make several keys to the same object or replace a lost one. You can create a duplicate if there is an original, and it is not personalized. For example, without programming, the RFID standard of most contactless passes that work with intercoms is copied, with public access control technologies without uniqueization. Nuances of copying RFID cards
Smart cards come in different degrees of protection. You can make a copy only if the technology allows it, which is logical: for example, you cannot copy a bank credit or debit card in hand. Special technologies of a high degree of protection will not allow copying most of the chips that are sewn into the hardware, this applies to some types of Mifare, as a rule, also related to finance. A duplicate RFID card in such cases requires special program access, the manufacture of a new chip. However, key cards may not have such a high degree of protection when it comes to:

• keys from intercoms;
• parking keys, parking tokens;
• keys for accessing the ACS system at work - without special security conditions;
• electronic tickets.

Copying RFID cards​

The fourth lesson from the series "All about RFID".
Today we will continue to study the RFID reader based on the RC522 chip.

• In the first part, there was a theory,
• In the second one, we made an electronic rfid lock with access by card or keychain.
• In the third part, we learned how to record different information on the card. For example, your first and last name.
• Now it's your turn to consider copying RFID cards.

Let's say you want to make a duplicate card so that you have one card in your office, one in your car, and one in your pocket.

Copying cards is no more difficult, or even easier, than writing them down. You just need to hold up the card and press 1 and ENTER on the keyboard.
Wait until the card counts.
Press 2 and ENTER again.
Wait and voila. You have a full copy of the card.
Well, almost complete, since the UID is still old. How to overcome this, I told in the video.

Now let's take a look at the whole process.
First, we'll load dumpinfo and look at the content of the cards.
We will consider sectors from 0 to 3.

Now let's upload the sketch, which I called Reader.
We check the cards. Let's see if there's any information there and we can erase it.
First, we look at the keychain.
It was clean and ready to be recorded.
If there was some information there and you don't feel sorry for it, then the next time you write it, it will be erased and a new one will be written on top of it.
We look at the same thing with card 1.
But card 2 contains the information we need. That's what we're going to copy.

Now we will copy our card to the keychain and to another card.

We wait until the action selection menu appears in the port monitor.
If you click on the 1 button, we will copy the card to the clipboard, and the number 3 will write the information to the new card.
The main thing is to keep the card in the reader's coverage area during operation, otherwise the data will not be counted or saved.

We wait until the menu appears again.
Press 3, and wait until the information is copied to the keychain.
We do the same with the next card.

Let's load Reader again and check how everything went.

One by one, we bring the keychain and cards to the reader and look at the output of the saved data.
As you can see, all the information was copied.
Now you have as many as 3 placemarks and you can lose or break them. There's always a spare one, and you can still make a whole bunch of them.
