I am sure that many have heard this expression, but for sure its true meaning has remained hidden for the majority. ?
Taking the quote literally, a person who has embarked on the path of self-improvement begins to wait for a certain "gray-haired old man" to come to him, ready to reveal to him the treasures of secret knowledge accessible only to the elect and the "Initiated". There is nothing surprising that, having waited in vain for his old man for months or even years, the disillusioned "disciple" abandons the search for "Truth" forever, returning to the former mechanistic existence. As the saying goes, "many are called, but few are chosen" ... ?
And the whole point is that you must become a Teacher for yourself! ?
Incredibly, it really is. In the age of the information boom, we have no shortage of knowledge (even those that still continue to be called "secret").
We are surrounded by mountains of books, a sea of audio and video information, the World Wide Web is at our service. You need to be blind or feeble-minded to continue to remain in a state of information vacuum!
The secret is that you can only understand something from many comparisons. After collecting and processing as much of this or that information on the issue of interest to you, comparing and analyzing opposing points of view, any sane person is able to independently receive what he so passionately wanted to hear from the so-called Teacher. It is enough to adhere to the simplest principle: "to doubt everything, not to deny anything", and very soon you will become the owner of your own "secret knowledge". ?
The role of the Teacher, therefore, is reduced only to not letting us fall asleep, to push us to action every day, every minute!
Knowledge that is not applied in practice is no different from a precious stone thrown to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. For it to gain its value, they need to USE, and not keep it locked up in secret caches of consciousness. This is what a Teacher is needed for! And is it worth repeating that the best Teacher (like no one else who knows all your feelings and thoughts, who is always nearby) can only be you?!.
It is easy to understand what and how to do, much more difficult to force yourself to do what needs to be done!
To become your own master, you need to be "born again", you need to "create yourself" or, in other words, to become both a student and a Teacher.
For most of us, there is simply no other way ...
After all, you do not want to sit with folded hands, waiting for the "gray-haired old man"?! ?
