The Baranovichi City Department of Internal Affairs spoke about a new type of criminal activity in the field of high technology, as well as ways to avoid being among the victims.

Item carding is a method of withdrawing money from hacked bank accounts.

Carder purchases goods, gift certificates, subscriptions and services using someone else's bank details.

To do this, scammers only need the card number, date and three-digit code (CVC). In some cases, the owner's name, address, and telephone number may be required.

The more information is known about the victim, the easier it is for the attacker to work.

After the goods have arrived at the specified address, the scammers either send it to buyers, who pay on average 30% of its full cost, or send it through forwarding points (official websites that are in no way connected with fraudulent activities) to the addresses to which they usually have access. They resell such goods on trading platforms (Amazon, Ebay, Avito, Yula) or in trade groups on social networks.

If the card has already been hacked and the attackers managed to use it, then there is only one way out - blocking the bank account.

To secure your accounts, experts advise issuing a separate card, which will be intended only for paying for goods when purchasing online. There is no need to store funds on it, and funds must be credited immediately before paying for the required product.
