The dating app has become part of the US military strategy.

The U.S. Army began actively placing advertisements throughout Lebanon to warn local residents about the inadmissibility of attacks on the United States or its allies amid growing tensions in the Middle East. It is noteworthy that some of the ads appeared in an unexpected place - on the dating platform Tinder.

Journalist Seamus Malekafzali shared screenshots of ads written in Arabic on social media X. The announcement says the U.S. will protect its partners from threats from Iran and Hezbollah operating in Lebanon. The announcements are not hidden and contain the logo of the US Central Command, as well as a link to a publication in X, which presents images of F-16 fighters and A-10 attack aircraft.

Ads on Tinder

The U.S. Army's psychological operations aimed at changing the attitudes and beliefs of certain audiences are not new, although their use on a dating app has raised eyebrows in the military community.

A U.S. Army psychological operations officer was skeptical of the operation. In his opinion, such advertising is unlikely to be effective, since its message is too direct and aggressive. At the same time, another US Army official noted that advertising on Tinder can be seen as an attempt to "reach the audience where they are."

Tinder quickly removed the ads as they violated the platform's safety and propaganda guidelines. A spokesman for U.S. Central Command declined to comment on the record, but did not dispute the information published in the Washington Post.
