Despite the opening of such delivery methods as SPSR Express and Qwintry Air, many Qwintry customers continue to use the services of the regular US state mail - USPS, which delivers parcels all over the world and offers very affordable prices and good conditions. In this article, we will not compare the quality of different delivery methods ( perhaps just a little! ) Or somehow compare this or that service. Today we will tell you about the fate of packages sent via USPS, from our warehouse to your post office. We will tell you about the tracking system, average delivery times, delays and how and where it is better to track your package on the way. In general, everything you need to know when sending a USPS package.

It's worth starting with the fact that regardless of the type of USPS mailing, the parcel will do the same way to you, which can be schematically depicted as follows:

Receiving a parcel - sorting - customs clearance - export . This is how the parcel moves through the United States.

In the same way, but just the opposite, it moves through the recipient country: import - customs clearance - sorting - delivery.

Sometimes, depending on the load of postal services and various external factors, this scheme changes slightly. Transit cities or even countries can appear in it. It is important to understand that the behavior of a large postal company is simply impossible to predict, it all depends on their own logistics decisions. Therefore, you should not be surprised if a package heading to Kiev arrives first in Moscow, and the departure to Kazakhstan will fly through St. Petersburg.

Faced with such a situation, there is no need to panic that the parcel was sent to the wrong place, in fact, this is a normal transit.

About tracking numbers
The main and only element that allows us to understand where the parcel is at the moment is the postal identifier , in the common people the tracking number.

Any user of Qwintry, and almost all residents of Russia who have used mail services at least once, know what tracking is. However, a tracking number is not just a random combination of letters and numbers. Information is encrypted in each of them.

Main tracking numbers for USPS international shipments

CA123456785US - a package sent via USPS Priority;
EA123456785US - package sent via USPS Express Mail;
LA123456785US - letters or small packet sent via USPS First Class Mail (not tracked);
RA123456785US - letter or small packet, Letter Post Registered.
Qwintry sends its parcels only in the first two ways: USPS Priority and USPS Express.

Any tracking number of an outgoing Qwintry USPS parcel consists of 4 letters (2 in front, 2 in the back) and 9 numbers. To understand how it works, you should divide tracking into 4 parts:
  • The first two letters of tracking: they hide the type of postal item. Parcels sent via USPS Priority are marked with a letter range from CA to CZ. EMS parcels from EA to EZ. ( tracking of Qwintry packages starts with CJ and EC, respectively)
  • The first eight digits of tracking: this is a unique code that the postal service gives to its parcels. According to the rules of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), each sequence of numbers should not be used more than once a year. If suddenly Qwintry gave you tracking, the parcel for which is already delivered, no need to panic, after a few days the status will change to the current one.
  • Tracking Digit 9: This is a verification code calculated using a rather tricky formula from the previous eight digits. In order not to give the formula here, here is a link to the official UPU document, where in paragraph 5.4 it is detailed how to calculate the ninth digit of the tracking number. Also, you can check your tracking by downloading a special program (in xls format, opened via Excel) from the UPU official website.
  • The last two letters of the tracking are the letter code of the sending country. All Qwintry parcels leave the USA, which means that the last two letters will always be US.
Answering the most popular question: according to tracking, it is impossible to determine where the package is going.

As for the tracking of SPSR and Qwintry Air, they are outside the jurisdiction of UPU, therefore, they are not adjusted to the general standard.

About the path of parcels
The parcel begins its journey as soon as the Qwintry employees print a postal label with a tracking number for it. Then the shipment in the next batch leaves for the post office, where USPS proceeds to sort and send the parcels further. There may be several sorting points depending on the country and city of destination. So, if parcels to Russia and Ukraine usually leave from San Francisco, next to Portland, then on the way, for example, to Moldova, from San Francisco the parcel will also be sent to New York and only then to the destination country.

If the parcel was sent, and the issued tracking cannot be tracked, and the USPS website simply issues a " Not Found " entry at your request, do not worry, panic and think that the parcel was assigned the wrong number, or that it was not sent or sent to the wrong place. You just have to wait from several hours to several days. In the very near future, your tracking will be displayed.

We draw your attention to the fact that the situation with the issuance of an incorrect tracking number is impossible in principle - the number is assigned automatically and it is also automatically added to the notification that is sent to customers. In the notification, we specifically write that you should not start checking the tracking number right away, since the information on the USPS website is updated only after a while, this can take from several hours to several days.

The most time consuming, oddly enough, is the flight from the USA - the export procedure, indicated in the tracking as "Processed Through Sort Facility" at the final sorting point. Most often it is ISC SAN FRANCISCO (USPS). This status changes only after the postal service of the receiving country processes the parcel and enters it into the database. Given the well-known promptness and well-organized work of local postal services in the CIS, this process can take from several days (at best) to one or even several weeks.

Then the parcel goes to the customs and further to the sorting center, and after that it is taken to your post office, where you come for it, having received a notification.

Average delivery times for USPS parcels are here. Judging by user reviews, recently the Russian Post and UkrPoshta have begun to work a little better, therefore, even during the traditional New Year's blockages, the parcels reached the recipients within 10-15 days, which even in calm periods can be called a very good result.

Maximum send delays
The hardest time for international mailing is the New Year and Christmas holidays and the opening sales of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Sending your parcel from the beginning of December to the middle of January, you cannot be sure about the delivery time. In December 2013 and January 2014, the local post office coped very well with a huge flow of parcels, but if you take the data a year earlier, you will see that then normal work was restored only towards the end of February.

Minimum parcel delays
In our experience, the most favorable season for sending parcels is summer, when the load on the mail is minimal. It is during this period that one can more or less accurately count on the target dates, which sometimes the local postal services even manage to shorten.

What is better not to send via USPS
Many newbies are often confused about which submission to use. We do not recommend sending electronics ( especially expensive ones ) to Russia via USPS , for this there is SPSR and Qwintry Air. But any items of clothing, shoes, toys and everything else through the USPS perfectly reaches. For other countries, there is no alternative to USPS, however, as there is no general theft at the post office, so even electronics can be safely sent to Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and other countries. However, never neglect insurance - anything can happen along the way.

How to keep track of your package
The easiest way to keep track of the package is to go to your personal account on our website, where a convenient USPS plugin displays the current location of the package. After the package has been exported, we recommend that you track it on the local postal service website.
  • Russian Post
  • Post of Ukraine
  • Belarus Post
  • Kazakhstan Post
It is best to do this, because from the moment the parcel appears in the recipient country, the local postal services update the information on its location faster. USPS receives information with a delay, so their data will not always be up to date. Also, local postal services, in particular the Russian Post, make it possible to find out the weight of the shipment.

Third Party Parcel Tracking Services
In addition to websites of postal services, you can track your tracking number using third-party services that collect information and provide it to users in a convenient form. This is especially useful when you have to monitor not one, but several items at once.

Here we can highlight the powerful TrackChecker program, equipped with advanced functionality and allowing you to conveniently track many shipments.

Also, Runet has a whole list of online trackers, here are some of them:
  • Gdeposylka.ru
  • PostTracker.ru
  • Sms-track.ru (a popular service that displays convenient statistics)
You should choose a tracking method according to your preferences. For the most unpretentious, the USPS plugin in Qwintry's personal account is suitable - convenient and simple.

The main statuses of tracking
Most of the tracking number statuses are clear and obvious. But there are some among them that should be explained.
  • Electronic Shipping Info Received - the post office has received information about the parcel;
  • Arrived at Sort Facility - the parcel has arrived for sorting;
  • Processed Through Sort Facility - the parcel has been sorted ( usually this status in ISC SAN FRANCISCO (USPS) indicates the export procedure to the recipient country );
  • Depart USPS Sort Facility - the parcel left sorting;
  • Customs Clearance - customs clearance
Most often, parcels "get stuck" with the status of Processed Through Sort Facility in ISC SAN FRANCISCO (USPS). After patiently waiting for several days, the user writes to us that, they say, the parcel does not move, let's put it on the wanted list! In fact, as mentioned above, the export procedure is the longest and can take up to a week, and in some situations even more. There is absolutely no need to worry in this case, you just have to wait a little.

Sometimes the tracking statuses change places, that is, Processed Through Sort Facility can go first and only then Arrived at Sort Facility, which contradicts any logic. This is a common system glitch that you don't even need to pay attention to.

And yet, some tracking status may hang uncharacteristically for several days. For example, Electronic Shipping Info Received can hang for several days. You shouldn't worry about this either, most likely, the package left Oregon a long time ago and is waiting for its turn for sorting in San Francisco, but for some reason the tracking information has not been updated.

Submission of a parcel to the wanted list
It is important to understand that if the package is not lost, tracing will not speed up the delivery process. In fact, this process cannot be influenced - well, neither you nor the sender have tools that could speed up or slow down the sending path. That is why we do not recommend submitting a package to the wanted list, it should hang for some time in one of the statuses.

If you want us to file your package on the wanted list, you do not need to write about this either on the forum or in the comments to the article. Contact our tech support by emailhelp@banderolka.com. However, please note that Qwintry puts parcels on the wanted list only 30 days after sending.

How do we recommend keeping track of the tracking number?
More often than not, beginners check their tracking several times a day, which is pretty nerve-racking if the package is even a little delayed. From the point of view of an experienced buyer, it is best to check the tracking every few days without paying much attention to it. It should be understood that parcels are lost very, very rarely: for one Internet story about a lost parcel, there are thousands and thousands of successfully delivered parcels, about which no one simply writes. All of the above reasons for tracking delays and freezes occur much more often than the loss of a package.

We hope you find this information useful! Register on the Qwintry website and send your parcels through our service - it's very simple and profitable.
