The US, UK and Australia are trying to prevent Facebook from introducing end-to-end encryption to messaging services. Countries want law enforcement officers to have access to their correspondence in a readable format.

On Thursday, American, British and Australian officials sent an open letter to Mark Zuckerberg asking Facebook to ensure encryption would not interfere with law enforcement investigations.

The letter was signed by US Attorney General William Barr and the British and Australian Home Secretary Prity Patel and Peter Dutton.

In particular, the document notes that "companies should not knowingly design their systems in such a way that they interfere with access to content." Governments are convinced that encryption will expose citizens and society to the danger of terrorism and sensual exploitation of children.

“The implemented security measures in the digital space should not put us in danger in the real world,” the letter reads.
Representatives of the three aforementioned countries are calling on Facebook and demanding that law enforcement be allowed full access to the content in a readable format.
