i dont understand this: what is the difference between 101 and 201 ?

i talk about the EU. i thougt 201 are ec cards with a chip, but now i see a visa which has 201. what does that mean? can i make a 101 from a 201?
where can i use 201 in EU an where not?

thanks

201 - gives instruction to ATM read the chip. And if hes unable to do it - it rejects transaction...
101 - without chip.
Its easy as 1,2,3.
:)

No you cant just change 201 to 101 and cash it in atm, coz when atm will send the track2 for checking to processing center for verification and it will not match with original t2, ur operation will rejected with error code (58 or 68, i dont remember right now).
But SOMTIME ( i heard that rumours) what this trick will go thru. But i think its only rumours.
