Investigation of the incident and its impact on gaming.

Ubisoft, a well-known French video game developer and publisher, has confirmed a cyberattack that temporarily disrupted their games, systems and services.

According to information from VX-Underground, on December 20, the company was attacked by an unknown hacker who gained access to the internal systems of Ubisoft for about 48 hours. The hacker tried to withdraw about 900 GB of data, but lost access before it could be done. The company launched an investigation into the incident and, as a precautionary measure, reset passwords for all employees.

Ubisoft said they are investigating an alleged data security incident after a group of VX-Underground security researchers shared screenshots of what appear to be the company's internal services.

As part of this alleged hack, the attacker claimed to have gained access to the Ubisoft SharePoint server, Microsoft Teams, Confluence, and the MongoDB Atlas dashboard, sharing screenshots of his access to some of these services.

MongoDB Atlas recently reported a breach of its systems, but judging from their disclosure, this incident is not related to it.

The attackers told vx-underground that they tried to steal Rainbow 6 Siege user data, but were discovered and denied access before they could do so.

Earlier in 2020, Ubisoft was hacked by the Egregor ransomware gang, which published parts of the source code of the Ubisoft Watch Dogs game. In 2022, the company suffered a second hack that disrupted its games, systems, and services.
