Uber customers in the UK have complained about "Russian hackers" hacking into their accounts and invoicing them in Russian rubles for trips around Moscow and St. Petersburg. Hundreds of messages appeared on Twitter from Britons, who had never been to the aforementioned cities, about fake invoices for payment in the national currency of the Russian Federation. Some have complained that their credentials are up for sale on the darknet.

We will remind, earlier Uber admitted to the data leakage of 57 million of its customers and drivers that took place in 2016. It is unclear at this point if the UK user complaints are related to this incident. According to the Times, more than 800 Twitter users from the UK and the US have complained about the hacks, and the peak of messages was in April-May this year. The actual number of victims could be much higher.

"I was hacked. Someone in Moscow uses my account and debited £ 54.55 from my card," complains one of Uber's UK customers.

“Given the obvious level of organization and the fraudulent schemes used, it is reasonable to assume that Russian hackers obtained the data of these users and are selling it on the darknet,” said Anthony Glees of Buckingham University.

According to British Prime Minister Theresa May, the National Cybercrime Center is working closely with British and foreign agencies to investigate the possible consequences of the incident for the British.
