The definition of “carding” includes many illegal actions in a wide variety of areas, including banking, cellular communications and modern information technology. Despite the differences in technology, all these actions share a number of common features:

- Carding actions;
- Breach of trust;
- Intentional misrepresentation or omission;
- Theft of someone else's property;
- Illegal acquisition of rights to someone else's property;
- In most cases, the victim of carding independently and voluntarily transfers his property or rights to it to the criminals.

Types of bank carding

Carding actions in banks can be divided into several groups:
  • Carding in lending – crediting amounts intended to repay debt to other accounts, issuing loans to non-existent borrowers, issuing loans without the knowledge of clients;
  • Carding in cash settlement services - unauthorized debiting of amounts from an account, substitution of counterfeit banknotes, pulling banknotes from a counted stack;
  • Carding with deposits - withdrawal of deposited funds, understatement of amounts in documents, write-off of funds without the knowledge of the client.
Most banking carding take place in bank branches and branches, where there is less control, rather than in large head offices. In such conditions, there are fewer employees, but they are involved in a larger number of business processes, which opens up greater opportunities for illegal activities.

Types of carding on the Internet

Due to the active growth of the market for electronic payments and online shopping, new modern forms of carding using information technology are also developing. The most common types of carding on the Internet are the following:
  • Phishing is theft of personal data (password, login) for the purpose of stealing funds from a bank card. Phishing is mainly carried out using mailings containing a link to fake sites;
  • Email carding – so-called “Nigerian letters”. They contain a beautiful legend about an inheritance from a mythical relative and a request to transfer money to an account to receive a lawyer's fee or commission;
  • Carding with online wallets - most often in such cases, the buyer transfers an advance payment to the seller to an online wallet, but in the end receives neither goods nor money.

Types of phone carding

Carding using cellular communications can be divided into two groups. The first includes withdrawing money directly from the account of the number owner without his knowledge. Such carding can be carried out both by the mobile operators themselves and by carders unrelated to their companies. The second group of carding includes cases in which the subscriber himself transfers money to the specified account, or gives it directly into his hands or leaves it in a place indicated by the carders. In such scams, cellular communications act only as a staging tool. For example, a call is played out from a close relative who is in trouble and urgently needs money.

Types of money xarding

Money carding is one of the most extensive and comprehensive groups, because almost any carding, one way or another, involves the illegal taking of other people's funds. However, several methods of carding can be identified that are associated indirectly or directly with cash. These methods can be practiced in shops, stalls, and exchange offices. The simplest and most common is carding by replacing real bills in a stack with counterfeit ones (mainly real ones at the top and bottom, counterfeit ones or plain paper in the middle). “Shortage” is also practiced - several banknotes are drawn from an already counted stack of bills. Carding can also be carried out using an ATM when trying to withdraw cash, on which a sensor is installed that reads personal data.

What are the types of carding?

The “range” of various carding has expanded significantly these days, mainly due to the advent of modern technologies in everyday life - such as the Internet, cellular communications, online shopping and banking. However, traditional types of carding are also still thriving. Among them one can name thimble makers, street carders offering to buy precious items, dummies who arrange accidents and offer to negotiate on the spot. One of the largest types of scams that involve a large number of people at the same time is the financial pyramid.

The most common types of carding

All the most common types of carding have one common denominator - they are carried out taking into account the psychology of potential victims of carders. Scams are thought out to the smallest detail and are capable of deceiving the vigilance of even the most careful and attentive people. That is why it is necessary to remember that personal data, such as password, login, bank account number, code word, CVV2 code on a bank card cannot be transferred to third parties.

Any attempt to obtain this information should be alarming and may be a reason to contact the relevant authorities.
