Henley & Partners have presented the traditional ranking of the world's strongest passports in 2021. Citizens of which countries can travel almost freely around the world? And what place did Ukraine take?

A Japanese passport opens the doors to more countries than any other nation's passport. It was the Japanese passport that took first place in the Henley & Partners Passport Index. What other countries' citizens can travel virtually unhindered around the world?

The Henley & Partners Passport Index is an international ranking of countries in terms of the level of freedom of movement they provide to their citizens. The index analyzes the visa regulations of over 200 countries and territories and ranks them according to the number of visa-free countries. The position of a country in the ranking is determined by the number of countries in the world to which its citizens can enter without prior visas (without a visa or with a visa upon arrival).

The most coveted travel document in the world, as in the previous year, was the Japanese passport. Its owner can easily travel to 191 countries and territories in 2021. Singapore came in second again, granting visa-free access to 190 countries. It is followed by South Korea and Germany (189 countries and territories).

The ranking for 2021 is almost unchanged from 2020, with the exception of two participants: New Zealand passport now offers visa-free access to 185 countries, one more than in 2020. Australia also received visa-free travel to another country. By comparison, passports from Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria - the three lowest-rated passports on the list - offer access to less than 30 countries.

It should be noted that in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, travel conditions in a number of countries have slightly changed. In particular, mandatory quarantine and negative COVID-19 tests on arrival may be required.
