What do law enforcement agencies plan to do to ensure the safety of informants?

A database of court records in Victoria, Australia, was accessed by unauthorized hackers, which led to failures in the audio-visual network in the courts. In addition, records of some court sessions between November 1 and December 21, 2023 may have been stolen.

"Possible access was limited to records stored in the judicial network. Other systems or records, including employee data or financial information, were not affected," said Louise Anderson, General Manager of Judicial Services Victoria.

Court hearings in January will continue after the affected network was isolated and disconnected. The court staff works closely with the Australian Government's cybersecurity experts. Victoria's Court Services did not say whether it had received any ransom demands.

Victims of sexual assault and informants of the criminal underworld may be at risk of exposure after hackers gained access to part of the archives of the judicial system in Victoria. This data included, among other things, videos provided under the witness protection program or simply protected by special court orders.

According to an Australian government report released in November 2023, national hacker groups have recently significantly increased their attacks on the country's critical infrastructure. It is reported that if you average statistics, experts record at least one attack every six minutes.
