Will the emergency alarm button work when you really need it?

The Dutch company Tunstall Netherlands, which provides alarm button services for all those in need, recently faced a cyber attack that caused significant disruptions in the company's service.

Tunstall's proprietary system offers emergency buttons for hospital patients, the disabled and the elderly to direct an emergency call to relatives or health workers who can quickly provide the necessary assistance.

On November 12, as a result of a cyberattack, the company experienced significant difficulties in receiving alarms.

It is not yet known exactly what kind of cyberattack this was. No extortionist group has yet claimed responsibility for this incident, and it is not certain that they will do so at all. Even in the cybercrime sphere, attacks on such services are usually bad form and can cause condemnation from other hackers.

According to experts, tens of thousands of Tunstall users could not contact the control room at the touch of a button between November 12 and 15, which forced them to call emergency services by phone.

The problem has now been fixed, as Tunstall Netherlands announced on its website on November 16. The company has already engaged a specialized cybersecurity firm to investigate the incident and prevent a similar situation from happening again in the future.
