The validity period of the bank card (do not be surprised if you hear - the expiration date) is one of the most important card details. It unambiguously determines to what point the card is still functioning, i.e. it can be used to pay, and is a necessary component when paying (or transferring) by card on the Internet.

Where can I see the expiration date?
You can see the expiration date of the "working capacity" of a bank card on its front side (more about the appearance of a bank card) right under the card number. The date is indicated in the format MM / YY, where the first 2 digits indicate the month, and the last ones indicate the year of the validity period. For example, 03/18 indicates that the plastic will expire in March 2024.

Unfortunately, all explanatory labels next to this parameter are in English. To the left of the term, you can read VALID THRU (approximate translation: valid until), well, sometimes MONTH / YEAR (month / year) is engraved on top. An Englishman will understand right away, who is not strong in English, can only guess. But since the MM / YY format is not found anywhere else on the front side of the card, there is nothing to confuse it with - just remember!

When does it expire: at the end or at the beginning of the month?
The most common question is when the bank card expires: at the end or at the beginning of the month? Correct answer: the card is valid UP TO the last day of the card's validity period . In the above example, this is the last day of March 2024. This is indirectly evidenced by the English word THRU (through, through, through), and the literal meaning of the VALID THRU translation will sound like this: valid through a month (i.e. within a month).

What if the deadline has expired or is about to expire?
And do nothing. Just go to the bank branch closer to the end of the last month of the card's validity (preferably after the 25th day) and pick up a new card - it will have a new number, a new PIN-code, but her account will remain the same. Those. You shouldn't worry about the safety of your funds, they are in your account, no matter how many cards you change.

If you do not want the card to be automatically reissued by bank, then take the trouble to notify the bank about this in advance. By the way, have you ever read the banking service agreement or the terms of use of the cards? So it says there that 60 days before the reissue of the debit card and 45 days before the expiration of the credit card, you can notify the bank in writing (write a statement in the department) about the refusal to use your card. Thus, it will not be re-released! You can read more about how a bank card is reissued.

How to withdraw money if the card has expired?
There won't be any problems here. The money is in your account and no one is going to hide it from you. It is enough to go to the bank with a passport and withdraw all the remaining money from your account - they will be given to you at the cash desk. But if you forgot your card at home and decided to withdraw money from it at the department according to your passport, then this is not so easy to do. Read why?

What are the expiration dates for bank cards?
All bank debit and credit cards have a validity period of 3 years (the standard term is 0 - rarely when it is less or more).
