The stolen documents have long been in the hands of intruders.
Cybercriminals have leaked internal documents stolen from Leidos Holdings Inc., one of the largest providers of IT services to the U.S. government, Bloomberg reports.
According to a source familiar with the situation, Leidos recently learned about the problem and believes that the documents were stolen as a result of a previously disclosed hacking of the Diligent Corp. system, which it used to store data collected during internal investigations.
After the leak spread, the company's shares fell more than 4% in over-the-counter trading, but then partially recovered. The company's clients include departments such as the Department of Defense (Pentagon), the Department of Homeland Security, and NASA, as well as other government and commercial organizations in the United States and abroad.
A Leidos spokesperson confirmed that the incident is related to a previously known case involving a third-party vendor. "This incident did not affect our network or any sensitive customer data," the representative noted. The Pentagon, the Department of Homeland Security and NASA did not respond to the request for comment.
A Diligent spokesperson said the leak is likely related to a 2022 hack that affected a Steele Compliance Solutions subsidiary acquired in 2021. At that time, the product was used by less than 15 customers, including Leidos. "We notified affected customers in a timely manner, including Leidos, which was notified in November 2022, and took immediate steps to address the incident," the representative added.
Leidos was founded in 2013, and in 2016 announced the merger of the business with Lockheed Martin Corp. In fiscal year 2022, Leidos became the largest federal IT contractor in the United States, with contract commitments worth almost $ 4 billion.
