Google has announced the release of a new stable version of its browser - Chrome 118 . The main focus of this update is on security: 20 vulnerabilities have been fixed, and several new tools have been added to protect the system.
Among the fixed vulnerabilities, CVE-2023-5218 is of the greatest interest . It is related to the "Site Isolation" function and is a "use after free"bug. In addition to it, other defects were identified with a full range of criticality: from low to high. Some of them allow arbitrary code execution and have already been exploited by attackers.
"Use after free" means that the program is trying to use a piece of memory after it is released.
One of the most striking features of Chrome 118 is the support for Encrypted Client Hello, which allows you to keep domain names (the list of visited sites) secret from Internet service providers.
Chrome 118 also offers improved Secure Browsing capabilities. Users will now be able to remotely disable extensions that were not downloaded from the official online store.
