One of the co-founders of the transparency organization Distributed Denial of Secrets (DDoSecrets), which continues the work of Wikileaks, turned out to be one of the leaders of the second version of the Silk Road site, Thomas White, who was convicted for this and for storing images with elements of child sexual abuse for 5 years and 4 months. White himself, who was released this year, told 404 Media journalists about this.

“I was made clear in no uncertain terms that if I publicly denounced Ross Ulbricht’s overly harsh sentence or said anything about DDoSecrets and other similar projects, I would spend much more time in prison,” White explained the reasons for his silence.

He also said that he launched DDoSecrets with independent journalist Emma Best, who is now the public face of the project, which collects and publishes huge volumes of leaked data and documents of public interest. The first communication with Best took place back in 2015, when White was already a defendant in his own case. Three years later, they jointly managed to launch DDoSecrets.

Thomas White is known for co-leading Silk Road following the arrest of its founder Ross Ulbricht in 2013, who is serving a life sentence. Prior to this, White, operating under the nickname StExo, was involved in laundering dirty money. However, after his sudden promotion, he changed his nickname to Dread Pirate Roberts 2.0. He was assisted in managing Silk Road by a Defcon user, who, as it later turned out, was ex-SpaceX employee Blake Bentall, as well as some employees of the “old” Silk Road, one of whom was actually an undercover agent. The reanimated site lasted only a year and a half and was closed in 2014.
