Officers of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Kostroma Region, as a result of operational-search measures, went on the trail and detained a 20-year-old student programmer suspected of participating in remote fraud at his place of residence in the Moscow Region.
According to the police, the young man had been recruiting criminal couriers for telephone scammers who deceived citizens for a year and a half under the scheme "Your relative got into an accident". He posted appropriate announcements in the groups of various messengers, selected candidates, to whom he then explained the specifics of the upcoming work and conspiracy measures. In the future, the recruiter gave the fraudsters the contacts of messengers trained to steal money from deceived people.
It was preliminarily established that during the illegal activities, the detained student prepared at least 20 accomplices for swindlers, including minors. Some of them took part in the theft of money from several residents of the Kostroma region.
The police searched the place of residence of the criminal personnel officer, where they seized a phone and a laptop containing information about his criminal acts.
Based on the materials collected by the police officers, the investigating authorities initiated criminal cases against the suspect under parts 2 and 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. At the time of their investigation, the defendant was taken into custody.
