Microsoft has recorded intelligence of American resources.

Microsoft has announced the activation of the Iranian hacker group Cotton Sandstorm, associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, ahead of the US presidential election scheduled for November 5, 2024.

According to the company, hackers are conducting reconnaissance and targeted attacks on election websites in several key states. In May of this year, the group also investigated the vulnerabilities of one of the American news resources.

Microsoft experts predict an increase in Cotton Sandstorm activity as the elections approach, given the experience of the group's past interference in election processes.

A spokesman for Iran's mission to the United Nations categorically denied the allegations, calling them unfounded and unacceptable. According to the diplomat, Iran has neither motives nor intentions to interfere in the American elections.

In 2020, Cotton Sandstorm already tried to influence the electoral process in the United States, when before the elections it sent letters to Florida residents on behalf of the far-right organization Proud Boys with threats against Democratic supporters. The main goal then was to sow chaos and distrust in the voting process. Subsequently, hackers distributed a video of alleged activists attacking the electoral system in order to create the illusion of large-scale interference.

After the 2020 election, hackers also carried out an operation to incite violence against American election officials who denied massive voting fraud.

In the upcoming elections, the main rivals will be the current Vice President Kamala Harris from the Democratic Party and Republican Donald Trump. The struggle between the candidates promises to be extremely intense.
