The District Court of Georgia sentenced 40-year-old American Stephen Drody to 32 months in prison, three years of probation and a fine of $1.1 million for fraud with computers for mining.

According to the local prosecutor's office, Steven Drawdy pleaded guilty to a fraudulent scheme to sell expensive computer equipment. From August 2021 to April 2022, the man actively participated in discussions on cryptocurrency online forums and received more than $1.1 million from 42 victims. They gave this money to Droudy in the hope of getting computers for mining cryptocurrencies.

However, instead of delivering the promised equipment, Drody embezzled the funds received and stopped communicating with the deceived customers. Sometimes he offered them a partial refund, requiring them to pay a commission for processing a request for compensation. Naturally, the fraudster did not provide any refunds or computers.

"Stephen Droudy deceived dozens of people, profiting from their desire to make money in the complex world of cryptocurrencies. Law enforcement agencies have done a lot of work to identify and stop this fraudulent scheme. We will continue, together with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), to pursue criminals and bring them to justice, even if they use the latest technologies," the local prosecutor's office said.
