Anton Andreyevich Yagunov, 38, of South Lake Tahoe, was convicted in federal court on four counts of impersonating a federal officer. Yagunov allegedly impersonated a federal law enforcement agent by creating and sending forged investigative documents that he signed on behalf of a fictitious federal agent in an effort to obtain highly secure information from the Department of Defense.

At the end of 2021, Yagunov began his activities: according to the FBI, he repeatedly called with bomb threats to various locations throughout the United States during 2021 and 2022. To take his threats seriously, he often posed as a federal intelligence officer.

He sent fake search warrants to various federal courts and agencies numerous times, using fake signatures and email addresses that mimicked the official domains of government agencies.

Moreover, using modern technologies for changing his voice, he claimed that a massive terrorist attack with the use of nuclear weapons was being prepared in the United States.

According to his own statements, Yagunov is wanted by Russian authorities in connection with a leak of information that led to a military conflict between the United States and Russia in Syria in 2018.

In addition, Yagunov stated that he was suspected of participating in the leak of data on the private military company Wagner Group, which could lead to the death of Russian soldiers in Syria. The defendant was also allegedly involved in hacking into the White House's telecommunications systems, using false documents and false identities to infiltrate U.S. government facilities.

Yagunov is scheduled to be sentenced on October 17, 2024, he faces a maximum sentence of 3 years in prison and a fine of $ 250,000 for each count of the guilty verdict.
