Austerities can be different. When you limit yourself to any pleasures that you really want, you automatically stop spending your energy on egregors. For example, enjoying food abundantly, you give a huge amount of energy as a tribute to egregors, which are fed by you at the moment of eating. When you digest food, you waste a lot of energy.
The asceticism of fasting, breathing is wonderful. It is also useful to limit yourself in comfort, for example, to go once a season somewhere where there will be no jacuzzi, hot water, comfort and heat (mountains, forest). Such austerities lead you to wise realizations, pleasures, understanding of life and reassessment of values. You cannot always live in comfort. The moments when you, for example, at the exit from the sauna or bath, jump into cold water and then back again - this is also austerity, because you deprive yourself of comfort for a certain period and enter tempering.
Consciously depriving yourself of pleasure and any comfort for the short term is very beneficial and works great. This also happens in my practice. I am connected on the Internet almost 24 hours a day, sometimes I read clients' messages at night or even conduct night receptions - this is one of the features of my mission. That is, in my case, asceticism is the interruption of sleep or other process if someone urgently needs something.
To some extent, playing sports is an asceticism, when the process is deep and conscious.
Therefore, I recommend that you include austerities in your life, practice them regularly, in no case should sticking be allowed.
