What happens if you cross the Steam Deck and XREAL Air? The answer breaks all the stereotypes

In the world of portable gaming devices, a new product has appeared that promises to turn the usual idea of portable gaming upside down. At MWC 2024, Tecno Mobile announced Pocket Go, a high-tech portable gaming device that looks a bit like Valve's Steam Deck, but doesn't have a built-in display.

Instead, the kit includes augmented reality glasses with two micro-OLED displays with a diagonal of 0.71 inches each, connected to the console via the included USB Type-C cable. AR glasses are capable of projecting a 215-inch image at a distance of up to 6 meters, which allows the user to immerse themselves in the game on a huge virtual screen, without breaking away from the environment.

We have already seen something similar in the XREAL Air 2 augmented reality glasses, which can be connected to any device via USB Type-C and display the image on the built-in displays in the same way. However, the solution from XREAL did not contain any hardware with the operating system, unlike the Pocket Go under consideration.

All the stuffing of the innovative device fits directly into the controller, which makes it look and feel quite massive. Nevertheless, this is an acceptable sacrifice in the pursuit of performance in conjunction with good cooling and autonomy.

At the heart of Pocket Go is a powerful AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS processor with 8 Zen 4 cores, 16 threads, a maximum frequency of up to 5.1 GHz and 16 MB of L3 cache. The built-in graphics is an AMD Radeon 780M chip with 12 computing blocks and a frequency of 2700 MHz, which is quite enough to provide good performance in not very demanding games.

In addition, the device is equipped with 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 1 TB SSD on PCIe 4.0, which guarantees high download and data processing speeds. While the 50-watt-hour fast-swappable battery will provide the longest possible gaming sessions without having to sit at the power outlet.

Despite the lack of information about the price and launch date, Pocket Go has already generated a lot of interest and excitement among fans of technology and games. This device promises to deliver a whole new portable gaming experience that has long been lacking in the gaming industry.
