Employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, together with colleagues from other regions, detained suspects in serial Internet fraud.

It was previously established that the attackers organized a criminal business in 2022. They created websites on the Internet where they offered citizens to buy computer, household or construction equipment at attractive prices. For this, they demanded a full prepayment. After receiving money to the scammers accounts, communication with customers stopped. During the entire period of criminal activity, the defendants created more than 150 websites.

As a result of operational search activities in seven regions of the Russian Federation, police officers detained eight suspects. During searches at their places of residence, communications equipment, computer equipment, bank cards, electronic data carriers and other items of evidentiary value were seized.

An investigator of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Six defendants were given a preventive measure in the form of remand in custody, two – in the form of recognizance not to leave and proper behavior.

Currently, the police are carrying out measures aimed at establishing all episodes of illegal activities of the detainees and their possible accomplices," said Irina Volk, an official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry.
