The explosions of pagers in Lebanon and Syria are being discussed at the level of the CIS special services.
FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov at the 55th meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the CIS States (SORB) announced the potential threat of using wearable electronics for assassination attempts on government officials, RBC reports.
Bortnikov referred to recent incidents with the explosion of pagers and walkie-talkies of Hezbollah members in Lebanon. "As the recent actions with the explosion of pagers and walkie-talkies in Lebanon and Syria have shown, the results of the work of the enemy's special services to collect information about the vulnerabilities of information resources and the conspiratorial introduction of "stashes" can be used not only to destroy critical information infrastructure, but also to organize assassination attempts on representatives of state authorities with the help of portable electronics at the right time," the FSB director said.
The head of the FSB described this situation as "a direct threat to the security of the CIS countries".
He also stressed that the further development of the internal political situation in the Commonwealth countries, and ultimately the security of states, largely depends on the joint actions of the special services of the countries to combat international terrorism, transnational crime, drug trafficking and other threats.
Recall that on September 17, a series of explosions occurred in Lebanon. Thousands of pagers belonging to Hezbollah detonated at the same time, injuring about 4,000 people, including many Hezbollah operatives and the Iranian ambassador in Beirut.
