The death toll from the walkie-talkie explosions has risen to at least 9 people.
Explosions targeting radios used by Hezbollah killed at least nine people and injured about 300 others in several cities in Lebanon. This came a day after similar attacks using explosive devices disguised as pagers that killed 12 people and injured more than 2,800. Israel is blamed for these attacks.
According to information provided by the Lebanese Ministry of Health, all the victims have already been taken to hospitals. The explosions, according to sources, were small, which is similar to the nature of previous attacks. Photos of damaged walkie-talkies and other communication devices exploding in different parts of the country appeared on social networks.
Explosions of solar panels and other electronic systems in residential buildings are also reported, which led to the injury of a girl in southern Lebanon. The exact cause of these explosions has not yet been determined, but it is assumed that they could have occurred near targets associated with the attacks on Hezbollah.
Hezbollah and the Lebanese government accuse Israel of orchestrating the attack, threatening retaliation. Israel, however, did not claim responsibility for the incident, although there were reports in the press about the possible planting of explosive devices in thousands of pagers purchased by Hezbollah.
Meanwhile, Israel has strengthened its military position on the northern border, moving units of the 98th Division, which recently participated in the fighting in the Gaza Strip, to the northern borders. As part of this operation, a limited mobilization of reservists, including air defense specialists and medics, was also initiated.
The situation on the border remains tense, with dozens of rockets fired from Lebanon on northern Israel on Wednesday. These strikes did not lead to casualties, but continue to increase tensions in the region. At the same time, Israeli air defense forces intercepted a drone, which was allegedly launched from Iraqi territory.
The escalation of the conflict is taking place against the backdrop of US diplomatic efforts. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken held talks with Egyptian officials aimed at reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, saying it was the best chance to stabilize the situation and address the humanitarian crisis in the region.
