If you are selling to a mint, they expect to know where the gold came from. Not just to confirm it is not stolen, but because they expect it to be at a certain purity.
If you want to melt it and sell it as scrap gold, you will be surprised at the low price you will get. This is not like having a dump and pin here - it is not instant cash at face value.
Then again, if that is plated tungston, it is hard for escrow to protect you from that.
