The global union has described how the tech giants are creating a new world order.
The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) has identified Amazon, Meta and Tesla as among the largest corporations undermining democracy around the world. These companies are on the list of 7 corporations that, according to the ITUC, "embody" the ways in which large international companies are trying to influence global processes.
The report points out that such companies violate trade union and human rights, monopolize media and technology, exacerbate the climate crisis, and seek to privatize public services, ultimately undermining democracy for their own gain.
The ITUC alleges that corporations have launched sophisticated lobbying campaigns to undermine public will and block global initiatives that could control them. In the quest for more power, companies are allying themselves with anti-democratic movements, including today's far-right forces. "Right-wing" politicians, according to the confederation, reduce taxes, limit wage increases and suppress trade unions, which is fully in the interests of Amazon, Meta and Tesla.
Amazon: A Threat to Democracy
The first place in the list was taken by Amazon. The ITUC says the company is an "existential threat to democracy". Amazon is accused of actively fighting against unions, low wages, a monopoly in e-commerce, high carbon emissions and tax evasion.
The report noted that Amazon is using lobbying strategies to undermine regulators such as the U.S. National Labor Relations Board, as well as ignoring EU hearings and resisting signing safety and health agreements.
The ITUC also accused Amazon of promoting right-wing political movements that undermine women's rights and antitrust laws, as well as allowing far-right groups to generate revenue online and drive traffic through AWS.
Meta: Impact on the perception of reality
Meta Corporation, according to the MCUC, has a capacity comparable to that of states. Meta's algorithms are capable of "literally changing humanity's perception of reality." In addition, the company's advertising model, based on the processing of a huge amount of personal data, makes Meta a platform with a serious impact on international processes.
The ITUC has also criticized Meta for refusing to pay news outlets despite regulators' demands and for trying to undermine privacy laws by lobbying for their repeal. The company is accused of failing to deal with the spread of violence through its platforms.
Tesla: A Dangerous Employer
Tesla, while not having the same impact on democracy as Amazon and Meta, is known as one of the worst employers. Elon Musk's company is accused of numerous labor disputes, poor safety conditions at work and human rights violations. The ITUC notes that Tesla refuses to negotiate with unions in Sweden and actively supports anti-union and anti-democratic positions.
In addition, Tesla has been criticized for violating environmental regulations: the company relies on nickel mining in Indonesia, which leads to deforestation, water pollution, and the destruction of local ecosystems. The MCP also raises the issue of the possible use of child labor in the extraction of copper and cobalt ore for Tesla cars.
In addition to these tech giants, the MCP list includes investment companies Blackstone Group and The Vanguard Group, oil giant ExxonMobil and mining company Glencore. At the moment, none of the companies have commented on their inclusion in the list.

The ITUC stresses that while the 7 companies are the most visible in undermining democratic principles, they are far from the only ones. The Confederation sees the rise of far-right movements and threats to democracy in a neoliberal global economy run by corporations. The ITUC believes that the future can be aimed at protecting people and the planet if the struggle for democracy in society and in the workplace can be won.
