Anti-fraud solutions can be a problem for subscribers.
Due to the growth of fraudulent schemes, telecom operators began to implement solutions to protect subscribers from repeated fraudulent calls. These solutions allow you to either prevent an unwanted call or break the connection during a conversation based on the analysis of the neural network. Operators note that over the past six months, the number of such calls has increased by 30%. However, experts warn that new technologies can lead to the blocking of not only fraudulent, but also useful calls.
Communication companies are actively working on technologies aimed at combating repeated fraudulent calls. T-Mobile (formerly Tinkoff-Mobile) announced the launch of the "temporary blocking" function, which is available to subscribers with the free "call protection" service activated.
According to representatives of the company, fraudsters are not limited to one call and, faced with blocking, continue to try to contact the subscriber using different numbers or going to instant messengers.
After the operator's neural network detects the call as fraudulent, all calls from unknown numbers are blocked for a certain period. At the same time, the subscriber still receives calls from his usual contacts and can make outgoing calls over the mobile network.
The neural network is based on the analysis of sound waves, not the content of the conversation. By comparing the sound with fraudulent call samples, the system flags suspicious calls. If the number of matches exceeds the acceptable threshold, the artificial intelligence marks the conversation and interrupts it.
VimpelCom confirmed that they have a similar function. In case of a high probability of fraud, the call is blocked even before the connection, and the so-called "security dome" is activated for the subscriber, which protects him from repeated suspicious calls. Calls from verified contacts continue to arrive.
MTS offers to block suspicious calls, or the subscriber can choose to mark calls to be warned of potential threats. The cost of the service is 3 rubles per day. In the first half of the year, the company blocked 1.3 billion unwanted calls, which is 30% more than last year.
In SberMobile, malicious calls are filtered, fraudulent and spam calls are blocked even before the first dial tone. Subscribers can use a service in which AI analyzes key phrases in a conversation and warns of possible fraud.
Operator t2 (formerly Tele2) warns of the risks associated with blocking calls for which there is no confirmed information about fraud. According to the company, the nature of the call can only be determined based on the analysis of big data, such as the frequency and duration of calls, since access to the content of the conversation is confidential. t2 believes that connecting all operators to the unified Anti-Fraud system will help eliminate calls with number spoofing and reduce the likelihood of fraud.
MegaFon refrained from commenting. Experts note that despite the active introduction of AI-based systems, it is not possible to completely solve the problem of fraud and spam, as attackers adapt faster. In addition, the systems cannot recognize fraudulent calls with 100% accuracy, which can lead to the blocking of useful calls.
